Sorry to hear about your Vanda's probable demise, though it probably has nothing to do with whatever products you did or didn't use; they are there to enhance/support good culture and not to replace it.

I don't know how readily Vandas take to S/H. They like being bareroot, so that they dry quickly between waterings, so they may be more difficult. Did you make the transition when new roots were starting?

You stated your sunroom is "cool", and you're trying to grow a hot-growing plant like a vanda (same applies to phalaenopsis) in semi-hydroponics???

In winter up north, folks often have very dry air. That leads to evaporative cooling of the LECA, making the root zone even colder than the surrounding temperature.

As if growing a vanda in colder temperatures isn't bad enough, the cold, wet roots will surely kill it.

Either turn up the heat and add humidity, or put the plants on heat mats.
