Phalaenopsis with strange holes in the last leaf of the plant Female
Default Phalaenopsis with strange holes in the last leaf of the plant

Hello everyone:
I am trying to find out what is happening to my phalaenopsis. I have more than 10 with this problem and in some cases the leaf of the plant is split right there. These plants were in a greenhouse and suffered high temperatures for two days because my husband ordered to cut the branches of the trees that covered it but also went to the roof of my house, I was not present and when I arrived it had already passed two days, the temperature at noon was 117 degrees F, the oldest leaves turned yellow but did not have these stings or whatever. I need help please, thank you.

Does look like sunburn - just a spot here and there, where the sun happened to hit, I think. A bit unsightly, but not fatal.

They suffered because of the heat but they did not get sun and this has been appearing little by little after they are on the porch. Is not there an insect that can do this?

I forgot to say that this happens only in the small leaves that are coming out and many times the gap crosses the leaf that has not opened yet and when it opens it is already perforated or split. I do not know what to think, I've searched a lot and I do not find something similar, the only thing I'm doing is cleaning with alcohol to dry

I agree that it looks like sun damage in the pictures. I wold expect the newer leaves to shade/ shield the lower leaves. If you still suspect an insect or other critter, I’ve had good luck tracking down orchid munchers by going outside at night and checking my plants with a flashlight.

Pictures 2 and 3 definitely show sunburns. With Picture 1 I'm not so sure but it reminds me of something I read years ago that applies generally to any plant: if there is a droplet on a leaf when the sun comes out it can act as a lens and concentrate the sun's rays onto the spot it's sitting on. The cluster of spotting looks to me as if that's happened.
