Split leaf tips?
Hello everyone. I'm kind of stumped on this one. One of my phals has very thick and stiff healthy leaves. With the odd exception that the tips are split. Hopefully the picture will be able to bring me an answer. She has growing root tips and put out to new leaves so what's with the splitting? She's planted in large Orchiata chips and she's watered about once every 8 days with well water. She's with all my other phals in an Eastern window. I've had this one probably 2 years now. It's bloomed Every Spring. Any suggestions?

Following with interest. I have seen this too, with a couple of my phals.

Yeah fish Mom. It's really strange, because all other 26 phals are fine, same water same potting medium same everything.

Okay then. Maybe someone who can explain this strange phenomenon can answer why our healthy phalaenopsis orchids have split leaves. I guess I'm kind of expecting Ray or ES. Although there are many others here who are just as knowledgeable and experienced. As you guys are too!

I was about to post and say that one of my Phals had a couple of leaves split at the ends, but I just now looked at this plant very closely, and the ends no longer seem split. The plant has always been very healthy and normal in every other respect (except that it hasn't bloomed in a year and a half but that's a frustration I've expressed elsewhere on the forum). So it makes me wonder if it's common for leaves to have a little split and then grow together as they mature?

Yes! I remember having that happen with one of my mini phals. And if I recall I went looking for it and couldn't find it because it had repaired itself. This particular one though does Bloom reliably, but has 3 Split leaves. They are all on the same side which may or may not mean anything. This is the one that when it's spiked early spring they went out sideways and it was kind of a hassle finding a placement for it in my group because of the sideway branching. The flowers were beautiful burgundy. Anyway I know that has nothing to do with the split leaves I'm just rambling!

Ladies, it occurs to me that Florence is headed Ray's way. He may not be able to answer you. (At the risk of getting in trouble) perhaps we should be praying for them.

Yes, Carol, he just made a post to that effect. I'm definitely praying for everyone down that way.
