One of my favorite cattleya orchids was knocked over and broke one of its new growths clean off. The new growths have been growing for a few months so they’re pretty developed. I quickly stuck it back together and taped it up tightly. Is there any chance it will kind of fuse back together and grow or is it just a lost cause? Also, if I were to plant the broke piece in sphagnum moss will it grow Keikis? I know some dendrobiums will do that.

It depends on how far down it broke. If some of the rhizome is included in the new piece, there is a small chance it will survive and grow as a separate plant. Otherwise it will die. Taping it back on won't work.

Don't feel too badly; almost all of us have knocked an orchid over and broken it at least once.

If a new growth broke off (it's not going to reattach!) it is very possible that the plant may "activate" another "eye" very quickly. Catts often have two "eyes" at the base of an active growth, with one growing and the other holding back as a "spare". So you may still get a new growth this season. As ES said, we have all done it...

Could’ve been worse. I’ve accidentally snapped off at least three spikes with buds on them.

Take the broken piece off and set it on top of some damp sphagnum. It may or may not grow into an entire new plant, but it's worth a shot.

I was reading this yesterday thinking that it had never happened to me and then that same evening while swatting a hornet buzzing against the window I knocked a mini phal out of the windowsill. Broke both flower spikes full of buds clean off below the lowest bud...
The plant is very vigorous so I'm expecting the highest nodes to activate and grow some new buds for me. With a bit of luck yours will also start a new growth in no time.
