Alliance decision advice
Default Alliance decision advice

So right now I have a few catasetums living in my spare room with a southern facing bay type window; I keep a sheer curtain on there to keep everyone cool and not baked , humidity is always right around 50 with a monitor, stays between 70 and 75 . Good to pretty great air movement between the fan/fans and window cracked.

Basically I’m trying to put a second shelf right up against the back of the one they are resting on by the window , as I’d assume and can see the light intensity drastically drops off shortly away from the window. That being said it can be pretty bright in there in the morning mid afternoon.

I’m looking for advice as far as an alliance ( to be easy, even though broad categorization tends to make people Leery... so maybe genus reccomendations for the type of conditions I’ve described , ive done a fair amount of research and I’ve hit a wall hence why I’m here it seems like it’s apples to oranges with most peoples cultivation experiences .... I appreciate any and all help

My only other thing is I’d prefer not to have to provide a drastically cooler winter period to set flowers or spike I realize this can eliminate a lot .... but living in Denver it would be real difficult in my apartment

Thanks !

The Oncidium tribe has my vote. Maybe Twinkles as they bloom more than once a year.

Cymbidium ensifolium - super fragrant. Habenaria carnea or medusa - also dormant in winter ( like catasetums ). Warm tolerant Masdevallia.

Maxillaria are pretty undemanding, like plenty of water when growing, just like catasetums, and would enjoy the light. Tonsbergii, cuculata, triloris all have reasonably showy blooms, although not to compare with a catasetum.
