Hi guys, my phalaenopsis roots are starting to hang over the side of its pot. Would you repot it in a slightly bigger pot or just leave it as it is?
On a side note; I realise the colour of the flower is erm 'different'. I'm not a massive fan of dyed orchids as I think the natural colours are beautiful enough, but this one was a gift so I'm hoping it will eventually re-bloom in a nice natural white..
I would watch that sun. Your plant can get sunburned easily in bright, hit sun. Do you have a sheer curtain for that window to diffuse the light? Phal roots go where they like. You can stuff them in, sometimes they rot, sometimes not. You can probably use the same size pot, just don't let it sit in standing water inside the decorative pot.
For most orchids, it is usually best to stay with the smallest pot that will fit the roots (excluding the aerial roots, which are fine hanging outside the pot).
The saying is that most orchids like "tight shoes".
