Oncidium Mini "Red Bug" Substrate Question... Female
Default Oncidium Mini "Red Bug" Substrate Question...

Hi Everyone

I couldn't resist this orchid at my local greenhouse, it has such tiny beautifully coloured blooms. It appears to be healthy but is in some very wet algae riddled moss...

I believe this plant should be able to dry out a big between waterings and be in a bark type substrate....should I leave it as is for now and repot once it has finished blooming?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jenna

Jenna, the Oncidium tribe, as a general rule, do not like to dry out. They like to stay slightly damp. I leave mine in moss but, small bark will work. Just remember to water more frequently.

Btw, that is extremely cute!

I have two Hwra. I grow them damp and intermediate temps. Bright light, a little less than my Catts.
