I was given a Phalaenopsis orchid as a gift... There is a leaf that is turning brown and yellow, but it isn't a bottom leaf. Please see photos attached - the rest of the plant seems to look good? Can anyone tell me what I should do?
Hi Lisa!
I am not very experienced with Phals. But seems to me like a sunburned leaf. I would advice you to sterilize a pair of scissors with alcohol isopropyl and then cut the affected area. To seal the wound you can spray a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and/or sprinkle ground cinnamon. You should probably move the plant if you have it exposed to direct sunlight to prevent any more burns on the leaves. Good luck growing your orchid!

Just for clarification, should Lisa cut the affected leaf at the brown area, as close to the green as possible, or should she cut into the green a little bit so that none of the brown remains? I figure the answer to this may be useful not only to the OP but to others here who may have to deal with something like this in the future.
It looks burned to me also. It could even be a burn from artificial lights. I would cut, just above the green with sterilized scissors. You will have a small margin of brown but, it should be acceptable. I wouldn't even bother with cinnamon as that leaf part is already dead. Just keep an eye on it after that. By the way, Welcome and that is a very pretty phal.
