New to the forum but looking forward to exchanging experience and knowledge.
Newest addition to the menagerie is Ch. Virdiflava with a generous bulk of roots and with a diameter of about 6-7 cm. It came mounted on a birch slice that had a very nasty stale sappy smell, so i decided to replant. The question i can't answer with none of the sources i went through is this : how in the word do I get a plant that big to stick to it's mounting surface? i have seen specimens that wrap around their bases twice and have very secure bond to the mount. This is my first plant of that kind. Is it just patientce or is there a trick to making it stick faster and more secure. Currently it is mounted on a coconut shell (convex side) held together with surgical silk thread through the holes i drilled in the shell. it hangs suspended inside a glass jug similar to a vanda delivery cylinder. About two inches of bark chips and moss to provide some kind of stable moisture. Container is loosely plugged with a cork lid.

Usually I see the entire plant tied to the new mount with string or something similar. Just wrap the roots around the new mount and tie it with a string.

Then wait for new roots.

Just wait. Do not use any adhesives. Tie to mount using 10 lb fishing line.

Do not put moss underneath the roots either. Resist that urge to do this.

Place in a humid environment. Relative humidity of about 70% - 90% is fine.

Growing season is spring through summer.

Resting season is fall through winter.

Allow roots to dry out between watering.

Water more during spring through summer.

Water less during fall through winter.

Moderately bright indirect light.

Intermediate to warm temperatures (60 F - 95 F).

They can produce small leaves, they are not truly leafless.

Old roots won't attach. New roots and new growth on old roots will attach. If the old roots were well attached to the mount you probably should not have undone it.

Leafless mounted orchids require at least daily watering during their growing season. If your growing area is not high-humidity you might have to water twice a day, morning and evening. Some can get by with a lot less water during a cool and dry winter, if that is they native habitat.
