Once a keiki, always a keiki?

Apparently my brother-in-laws wife has had a dendrobium of some sort since her husband died 3 years ago. He was the plant guy. The Den has managed to survive, but was obviously neglected. It is now keiki upon keiki upon keiki and huge. To the point where keiki's just fall off occasionally. So she gave me one. It is starting to show growth and I think it's another keiki. Is there any way to get out of the cycle of keiki's or is it destined to be this way forever? I sure would like to return it to it's happier state and make it bloom in honor of my much loved brother in law. Any suggestions or experiences to share?!

First, keikis can bloom themselves, as well as the parent plant. A plant with multiple keikis can make a nice display, and just because a plant is prone to keikis does not mean you will not have blooms.


If you can post a picture, someone will probably be able to tell you what type of dendrobium it is. It may require certain cultural conditions to prompt blooms.
