Dendrobium Nobile - shoot with air roots - what should I do?

Please see picture - my Dendrobium main stem is dying off and there is a shoot coming from lower on the stem with air roots - also there is a shoot coming from an old stem.

What should I do?

That's common in this kind of plant. These adventitial growths from above the base are often called keikiis. When they have a good root system they can be potted up separately. The larger they are before separation, the faster they grow.

This is growing season. Is it making normal growth from the base? Often older pseudpbulbs shrivel like this. If the roots are still fine the shriveling is not a problem.

I would not split it up at all. Keikis that are attached fo a viable growth can bloom, and the original growth as well. (Don't be fooled by lack of leaves.. those older canes are quite capable of blooming for multiple years) In fact, don't cut any canes that are still green - when they are brown and shriveled up and really obviously dead it's OK but you'd be surprised at what can still produce flowers!
