Hi.
I bought this Brassolaeliocattleya. It had poor root system so I put it in a very humid environment (a tall plastic container with hydroton and moss with plant sitting on top of not in it with a bag over it)and the newest growth grew 10+ New roots. I decided to transfer it into bark medium in a plastic container. Just a little concerned that roots might die off because some of them have this black color around them. What should I do to prevent it from dying? Put moss around it? Water more often?
Currently, I water it x 3-4 days. Temperature is in 70-80s and humidity 50-60%. Thank you

You have nice new roots starting - the ideal time to repot. So congratulations. Those new roots are what will save the plant - and messing with them risks damaging them. So... just let the plant do its thing. No moss, and watering frequency is good, certainly not more often - these plants need to dry out between waterings. The old pseudobulbs (even if they bad or no roots) will give the plant the energy it needs until it has enough new roots to support it. So now, just be patient. It is on its way. (When medium is changed, roots typically don't adapt well to the change, but since it is actively rooting, it will produce some more new ones that make themselves right at home in the new pot)

I get so happy and excited when I see those new green root tips but when something happens to them it really tips me off I get really upset. When it was still in the humidity container I created with moss and hydroton, one of the roots suddenly thinned, got black and died off. I didn’t know what happened. That’s why I potted it up. Takes so much time and patience to grow new roots on these and then they just screw you up. Gets me real upset. Thanks, will continue with my current care.

The plant looks good. The dark circumferential areas on the roots represent previous poor conditions, and now you are providing good conditions. If you keep it up you will soon have a healthy plant.

Those areas developed when it was still in the humid environment of the plastic container before I potted it. So I don’t know if I did anything to harm the roots. I read somewhere that the best time to repot is when the new roots emerge. I hope I did the right thing? Thanks for your help
