Should I repot my orchid?
Default Should I repot my orchid?

Hi all!,

My orchid seems to have gone into overdrive. She has produced lots of new leaves and is on her fifth flower stem since I bought her 18 months ago. She seems to be pushing herself out of her pot, which is smaller than it looks as it has a water reservoir. She is rooted in an orchid pom substrate which I replaced about 6 months ago. She is stating to loose her flowers on her most recent stem, so I figure now is the time to do something with it.

Should I repot her into a bigger pot? Has she produced keikis and should I remove them? Are they Keikis roots or aerial roots? what would you do with her now? Please advise!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

It's hard to say. If you repotted only 6 months ago and the orchid seems happy, I would probably not repot myself.

It does not hurt Phals to unpot them, look at the roots and then repot. So if you are worried whether the roots in the pot are good, you can always do that. They do have a tendency to grow up and sideways with time. In habitat they hang sideways, with the leaves dangling down.

If there is something about a plant that makes one ask, the answer usually is "yes".
