Default Phal with black above roots

I'm going to start out by apologizing I've read through the first 12 pages at least (I believe I went to the 30s when I first joined) of the Phal abuse ends here sticky. And have done advanced searches with what I thought my issue might be called but obviously I'm clueless. So again I apologise for repeating a question that has probably been asked way to many times but I'm not finding any answers I need. Since I can't find anything by searching the terms that I thought was the case I'll just show pictures and ask for help please. Currently she's just in a empty pot because I don't know what to do with her 😯 All I can say is my first thoughts were pretty advanced stem rot? The spots seem to be soft also...and all the way around. Just worst in the last pic...

I did not post information on Phalaenopsis pathology. That's why you didn't see anything regarding this.

I wanted people to know how to grow the orchid right instead of worrying about the plant's pathologies. What ends up happening is that sometimes people get too fixated on the pathology to even start doing the right things.

It is difficult to say what it really is without feeling it.

It does look diseased, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is stem rot.

These problems are pretty common when you buy a store bought Phal. They are often mistreated to the point of extreme damage. This is why I often post how to select a healthy Phal the right way before I even talk about the plant's pathology.

Reduce watering. Let the leaves drop if they do. Focus on keeping the roots healthy and intact. If the roots are alive and intact, the leaves can all fall off, but the plant is actually still alive. In time, the leaves will grow back even if the leaves are all gone. If the roots are falling apart, it's game over.

There is a member here who owns an orchid species called Chiloschista lunifera and her name is Robyn Marko. She posted a photo of this orchid. She just posted a question I just answered today. If you look at what the Chiloschista looks like, you will notice that it is just a bunch of roots with no leaves and a flowering inflorescence. If you read my response to her, you will find out that I mentioned that Chiloschista and Phalaenopsis are actually distant relatives of each other. Basically my point of mentioning this is that the way a Chiloschista looks will be how a leafless Phal looks if you're wondering what to look for. Just scale up the Chiloschista about 10 times.

Thank you! So I'm going to pot her in bark, of course the bark I have is small seedling bark I believe so I think I'll go buy some medium bark since that is the only other size I've seen(and I've been to almost every nursery and plant store in our valley). I'll just try to keep the part that is sick pretty high up away from the media? Should I water it after I pot it or even soak the bark first? She's been sitting in an empty pot all night and so far today. I soaked her pot before I took all the nasty sphagnum moss out last night. Last question...Do I leave the sick part alone and not treat it or anything?

Medium to large grade bark is fine.

Yes, do keep the diseased looking part of the stem above the bark.

You can soak the bark in water for a while. It is not necessary to. It is easier to fill the pot with dry bark.

You can water the orchid after repotting, but make sure the roots dry out before watering again. I'd probably recommend watering some time next week, honestly.

It is not necessary to treat the diseased looking area. A change in conditions will remedy the problem.
