Default advise on Cattleya Mossiae - damage or virus?

Hello

Petyr here, I am new to the board.

I am a big cattleya and I am gradually growing my collection. Acquiring orchids here in Switzerland is a pain and we only have a few specialist nurseries.

I managed to pick up a Cattleya Mossiae and bloom it (still needs to be repotted as it came in sheaf and I didnt want the plant to abort the flower). See attached photos.

I noticed a couple of colour dots on the flower petals and sepals - should I be concerned? The discoloration does not continue across the back of the flower. I was reading about viruses and was wondering if this is a possible indication or whether it is caused by some water damage? The flower has soooo much sap on it.

Any advise is appreciated

Also managed to pick up a Digbyana and giving it plenty of light. Smells amazing at night. Need to repot it though.

advise on Cattleya Mossiae - damage or virus? Male

Welcome to the Orchid Board! Those are beautiful flowers.

Cattleyas can have spots of darker color near petal tips. It doesn't look virused. The brown spot could have been a scratch or other mechanical damage. A fungus called Botrytis can cause numerous brown spots on orchid flowers in conditions of coolness with high humidity, but just one spot is not likely Botrytis.
