Default Beginner needs advice

Hi guys,

First of all - I'm happy to have found this forum.
Also, I'm sorry if someone has previously asked a similar question.

Thing is that I've got an Orchid two weeks ago as a present. Four days ago, one flower started opening, so at the time, it looked normal, and I wasn't worried.

However, from the beginning, I've noticed some white stains on its root and today I've noticed few cracks. After investigating online, I'm still not sure if this is normal/expected state for my flower.

So, I'd really appreciate if someone could share advice on what should I take into account and how should I proceed in making her healthy. Tnx

First, welcome! Your plant looks good, no worries. Since it's in bark, and a clear pot, watch your roots through the pot, when they start to look silvery, water throughly until the water pours through the bottom. In the beginners section there is a thread "The Phal Abuse Stops Here." It's informative reading.

What Dolly says. Including Welcome!!

And avoid getting water in the crown. Water on bark, not leaves.

Welcome to the OB! I agree with the others, you have a very healthy Phalaenopsis. Ditto on the advice to read "The Phal Abuse Stops Here," which can be found here:

The Phal abuse ends here.

It's a long thread, so don't try to absorb all of it at once, but if you peruse it a bit at a time, you will pick up a lot of helpful tips.
