I don't know where you are getting your seed, but there have been some discussions here indicating that some of the seed being sold as "egret orchid" seed is not actually this. Tubers are available from Kusamono Gardens
although they are sold out at the moment. I believe they keep a waiting list for next year.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Almost all the "orchid seed" sold on eBay and Amazon is fake.

Almost all orchids are very hard to grow from seed. Almost all of them need to be grown in a lab under sterile conditions.

The egret orchid is very particular about soil, watering and dormancy. Growing it is a lot different from most other plants. If you just stick it in a pot it will die quickly. When you treat it properly it grows and flowers without much trouble.

I suggest you read about the egret orchid on the Kusamono Gardens Web site fishmom mentioned. Click on the flower listing and read down to the bottom of the page. They also have a downloadable care sheet for it.

Tubers ship in early spring. Once they wake up from dormancy and start growing, they are too fragile to ship. Put yourself on the Kusamono Gardens mailing list. They will notify you next fall when they are taking pre-orders. I ordered my plants last November, and I got an E-mail this week saying they have shipped.

If you use the Search function in the top maroon menu, and search on Habenaria radiata, you will find threads in which some of us here write about our egrets. Good luck!

Thank you esracion and everyone else for your response and good information.
Well, it looks like I have been swindled I guess. I ordered seed and tubers from amazon and etsy:
Not sure what they will be sending
Guess I'll use them as a learning experience and see if I can make them grow. So disappointed as these are my favorite flower
I wonder what they will actually send and how they get away with this deception?
Thanks again for all the information and site references
I appreciate your help..

You might get real tubers. The directions we pointed to work well. Kusamono ships tubers in tiny plastic containers with damp sphagnum moss. I put them in the vegetable drawer of my refrigerator and check on them once a week. When they make new green growth from the tuber I put them in pots. I use pumice mixed with sphagnum moss for medium.

Orchid seed is fine, like dust. If you can see individual seeds in the packet, it probably isn't orchid seed.
