Help to encourage a new stalk and ways to check health

If you seen my other post about my orchid it isn't doing well. The top of the stalk is broken and hasn't grown a bit, and I took off the stalk growing out of the main stalk but I don't think I'll get any more buds out of it so is there any way I could encourage a new stalk so I could get more buds. And ways to check its health before I buy a new one so I don't kill it.

Phals tend to initiate spikes once per year. If a spike has lower nodes that don't grow, and something happens to the upper buds, and the plant is quite healthy, sometimes the lower nodes will push out buds in that growing season. But it doesn't happen all the time, and things need to be just right.

If you take good care of it, it is more likely the plant will flower next year, or the year after that, at about this time.

Sometimes in the store you can slip a plant out of the pot and take a look at the roots. A lot of Phals are shipped in thin plastic pots you can see through if you take them out of the decorative container.
