That's what they said here in the1970s.
I was thinking about not responding because it's going away from the original subject and also some possible political interpretations may happen but, back in the 70's, the US were on the top of the world economy (most because of the oil&gas markets).

Today, this is not true. Oil&Gas is in decline, we have China (that is now the leader or renewable energy production), India and some other countries/regions extending their influence in the global market.
And who gives the orders are not the politicians but the market instead.
And, as the picture shows, the vast majority of it thinks metric.

I'm sure new generations will think too.

Then my family headed back to France and I was very confused to find out that the UK's imperial gallons are not the same as US gallons. The British are even more bizarre, employing a strange mix of both systems and weighing themselves in stones....
The problem is that a pint of beer is just right. A half liter is smaller than a pint and not satisfying. (Don't get me started on 11.6 ounce / 330ml bottles.) A liter is too much, unless you live in Bavaria. Noch ein maẞ, bitte!

That's the market working. It's always better to have too much than less. I'm sure you would buy a liter instead of half! Especially in your climate!

That's the real point. It will change when the market demands it.

I find it rather funny that Tesla SpaceX uses Imperial measurements for their rockets, and not SI. I searched for about 10 minutes and could not find out whether Tesla automobiles use metric or imperial units for nuts and bolts.

Well, but on their automobiles there is a function to convert to metric system in the odometer, speedometer, etc.

The probable reason for the system used in manufacturing is the fact that the automobile plant is located in the US. Imagine what would happen if they ask their workers (who probably spent their lives thinking non-metric) to work with SI units.
I could predict a lot of manufacturing errors leading to recalls.
It would cost $$$$.

In fact I was checking in Tesla forums...in their manufacturing process almost everything is metric, except a few components.
The explanation is more or less what I said: many of their workers come from abroad, especially engineers.
Also, the market rules too...to export for the whole world, as we've seen most of it uses SI, the best opt is to use metric.
