How to grow straight Dendrobium nobile canes

Hi,

Here's a real beginner question! I've read that orchids should be kept consistently oriented in one direction toward the light, so I've followed that practice. But my Dendrobium nobile has a young cane that's now curved toward the light. How do you folks who have orchids with tall canes keep this from happening? Is this type of orchid an exception to the rule? Any tips on growing nice straight canes? It's in a big south-facing window, if that makes any difference, although in this New England winter it's not getting a ton of light.
