first time cork bark mount Chilochista
I am very excited and nervous to mount my Chilochista.
I bought my beautiful cork bark board at a local orchid shop and was going to use fishline to mount it. At the shop one of the workers recommended to glue it with crazy glue. Now I do like the idea of no obvious fishing lines, but will the glue dry white and be equally unattractive?
Also, when I mount the orchid that is quite long, perhaps 15" or so, do I have the main part of the orchid (where the roots and spikes grow from) at the bottom of the board ?
Also, I was told to soak the board first, now I use RO water I go and bottle myself to water my plants, but I don't have enough to soak the board. Is basic city water ok? I could add de-chlorinator to the water. How long do I soak it?
Am I over thinking this ?

I wouldn't use glue to mount my orchids, although I know some people do. I am just afraid that there are some chemicals that may harm the plant but I am usually too worried about things.
I would use string or something similar. Jute will act as string that will degrade over time and disappear.
I would put the growth points of the plant in the middle.
I don't know about soaking the mount before, but after I mount an orchid I give them some nice water to refresh them (Don't know if that helps the orchid or anything though)
I use regular water for watering, but water quality is different from where you live (America) and where I live (Indonesia)
What about a photo?
Also, it's Chiloschista, no R's.

Crazy glue is methylmethacrylate, and the solvents will damage roots. People usually tie mounts with something like fishing line, dental floss, soft yarn, jute string. The new roots will attach to the mount.
Cork won't get wet. There is no point to soaking it. Just tie the plant on the piece of bark.
Put your RO water in a spray bottle and get the plant very wet at least once a day.
City water varies a lot over the US. Some is fine for orchids, and some is not. Your water company or city will publish a water quality report somewhere on their Web site. Go look that up. See if you can find the pH and total dissolved solids (TDS.) Orchids mostly prefer pH 5.5-7.5 and TDS under 100. If your water fits these criteria you can use it. Put it into a bowl and let it sit overnight; the chlorine will evaporate.
If your water pH is higher, or if it has more TDS than ideal, your orchids will be happier with pure water.
Can you collect rain, or melt clean snow? That is much less expensive than RO water.

Thank you both for your advice. I will not be using glue. I would rather be safe then sorry. I can collect snow right now but it's kinda a pain in the you know what to do so. I'm actually bottling RO water from my family member who is on well water. So it is free just again a pain to bottle up a few gallons at a time and hauling them back with me. I'm hoping to get a rain water collector started soon. my biggest concern with the water is not only the chlorine but the floride thats in the water, I have some none orchid plants that get a little burnt from the floride and was unsure if it was an issue for orchids.
I've attached an image of the orchid on the board seeing how I'm going to fit it.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much more confident about it. I'll have to post an end product picture once I get it mounted !
