If anything, I'm an overwaterer and love doing the extra care so for me.. <3 that's a good thing. Yeah, I'm going to be reasonable, but who knows when I'll get a chance again too, ya know? I'm afraid to ship anything after getting frozen plants recently from my trip to Hawaii despite the stores assurances that it'd all be fine.

I never order plants in the winter for that very reason. I don't buy many plants anymore as space is hard to come by. But there are a couple shows coming up that are within a drivable distance for me so I can still get my fix at least visually.

Yeah, I've learned my lesson. I hadn't ordered plants since moving to Wisconsin. I now have store credit there though so I'll be ordering when the weather changes.

If that Lepotes bicolor grows well for you (and it probably is a good idea to try one before adding others) you might also look at some other Leptotes such as pohlitinocoi, which also blooms in the spring/early summer and is pink, - obtainable from several sources - or pauloensis (same as harryphilipsii) which is pink with yellow lip and blooms in the fall, I know Andy's has it. But with any new type, try one for a year first. Leptotes, being very succulent, are far more forgiving of drying out and being otherwise abused, than nearly anything else that wants to grow mounted.

I hope your children have a good time. I always envy those who have children that have an honest interest in orchids. Mine, now adults, always make certain they work the weekends of shows.
West Shore Orchid Society in Strongsville Ohio is having the Mid-America Conference. I am not sure if I should avoid the temptation or just go and relinquish all hope. :0

Oo that sounds lovely! I love yellow & pink together. I restrained my addictive self and didn't buy another leptotes bicolor today when I went back. Only came home with a fragrant phal and a mini phal that my kiddo paid for himself.

Verrrrry!! esp since I have months before I can be outdoors in my work-in-progress pollinator habitat.

Make that family and friends in general. My sis and folks will accompany me to a show or general nursery greenhouse if we are visiting each other, but it's harder to really enjoy myself when they are around. I am the only plant person in the family. And while they may be willing to accompany me, I am always conscious of the time knowing their patience is quite finite. They can be done looking at an entire show or entire greenhouse before I am done with the first couple tables or displays.

Aw that's a bummer. My mother in law is my partner in crime. She works at a nursery in the summer and has an amazing small garden surrounding her home. She's helped me do a lot of the work for this bigger habitat. My husband and my 8 year old son also love plants & gardening. My 4 year old, not so much. He gets super pouty about going to the local gardens & having to be outside while I work in the summer. There's time though with that one. We'll get him there.
Also, Hahah I second it. GO TO THE SHOW.

Congrats on the show haul, definitely take the kids today! Took mine to our 1st ever orchid show in Ann Arbor last spring. Mine love helping out now on repotting days, they love the anticipation of watching a spike slowly grow to eventual blossoms. They also love sitting with me when I'm on here checking out everyone else's blooms (dad, can we get that 1 too, and that one, oh and that 1, maybe 2 of those)
