greenpassion did you say your house is 68 or 70 degrees? Do you leave the heat mats on all the time? I guess I'm wondering if you really need them all on mats. I will admit I sometimes think some of mine could use one but my house can get very cold especially at night and if the wind is blowing. I just checked and my living room is 64 right now and it can get much colder. Maybe this little guy should come off the mat.

You may very well be correct on that one. That has been occurring to me as well lately. Since I started this post I turned the heat mats way down. It does get down to 6667 at times so I may not turn them off completely but I will definitely lower the heat for sure. I have a group in front of my East window and they are also on a warming mat. The temps over there though can get quite cold so I leave that one on medium medium high.

I'm going to agree with removing them from the mats completely. I have two hybrid noids that sit on the kitchen table while in bloom, and on a rack in the livingroom otherwise. The house temps are set for a max of 71 during the day and 64 overnight. One is in a plastic pot, the other in clay. I water them thoroughly once a week with tap water, add fertilizer every couple weeks, and use KelpMax once a month. They have shown no distress. I spray the surface roots daily with plain water, too.
All this to say if this phal survives, try taking a more casual view on care. Getting too technical has caused new growers more headaches than necessary.

I might be getting confused with another poster, but I seem to recall Gaited Gurl's house goes into the 40s/50s at night. I can't imagine a Phal surviving that without a heat mat.

Sorry. I was addressing greenpassion. Maybe I should have been more clear.

So much for me taking my own advice to look at the post dates!
