Default Dendrobium carronii appears to be in trouble

Yikes. I thought it was so cute and I might be able to care for it. It is rather tiny. 3 of the 4 pseudobulbs have lost their leaves (is it deciduous??) and one of them has turned "crunchy"...to the touch, not to the teeth! I hope it's not in its death throes, but I don't know enough about it to know. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I got sucked in by its beauty at the WOC.....

It may be OK. Crunchy doesn't sound good, though!? A leaf lost here or there is no big deal, but a crunchy pseudobulb?

Make sure it's not in front of any direct drafts or vents. Maybe try to increase the humidity. From what I read, these should be on the drier side. Sounds pretty dry!

Default crunchy pseudobulbs...

Yeah, it looks to have dried out. I think I may have carried the drier conditions a little far. Hopefully, it's not too late! Thanks for your response!

Don't give up hope! Just give it more normal conditions. Seedlings don't always need the same conditions as mature plants. It might need a little more water while it's young, then likes to dry more once it has some good pseudobulbs.

Where in TX are you?

I got a carronii recently and they have a resting period in winter and spring (ie. now!!), so I wouldnt worry too much. As long as the "crunchy" bulb is towards the back of the growth and is not one of the newer ones, thats ok. Mine finished flowering not too long ago and is currently dumping the last of its leaves as well. Im not worried! Pics might help too.

Default Carronii, con't.

I live in Waco, Texas. The pbulb in question is in the middle of a collection of five. Considering the price, I think it is most definitely a seedling. The roots are still fairly healthy and the two pbulbs on either side of the desicated one are nice and rigid and green. I moved it to a higher spot in the greenhouse (it's a hanging plant), so it will get a little more sun and breeze from the fan, just to make sure it hasn't gotten too damp....I am notorious for drowning my plants..... I will have to see if I can post some pics of my collection and some of the WOC pictures I have. I think you guys would be more into the pictures than my hapless relatives !!

Waco, huh? My brother just got accepted into Baylor Law School! That's in Waco, right? I'm in Nacogdoches.

You sound like you have things way under control. It sounds like it's an old pb and that you have some good new growth. Probably b/c you have a GREENHOUSE! I'm sooo jealous!

Yeah, I can see the law school from the science building...they do teach science at Baylor I am almost finished with my Ph.D. in physical chemistry......anybody still awake !! My spousal unit built me a greenhouse last year as a christmas gift. I have loved it and have been experimenting with who will live and who will not since we moved my collection into it! If I figure out how to post pictures.....!

Yeah, but it's really far from me. I hear it's beautiful, in its own way.
