estacion, this kills even the eggs? wow I wish I knew this before when I had a scale infestation and went through a massive repotting effort. But it was probably for the best.

Eggs are metabolically active - in fact, more so than adults, because the cells are dividing so fast. Their oxygen consumption is likely higher than older animals and they probably drown even faster.

Good to know. I've soaked a plant in alcohol before after removing from pot, then rinsed, and had it recover. This one was just soooo infested and so much deep in the wood, it scared me to keep it around. Were it summer, perhaps. But closed in, winter... eh, it was beautiful. Literally disgusting.

Also, was one of my very first mount attempts...a learning curve thing. There was probably two cups full of spag moss stuffed into a cavity under the plant, maybe more.

Submerging kills any animal. A problem can arise with a plant with a lot of little holes made by sucking insects. The plant can absorb a lot of water through the holes, so it's probably better to limit the dunk to a half hour and see how it goes.

I also wouldn't choose this method during the cool season for a warm-growing plant.

If I was able, I would like to have all of mine mounted. I don't think I could really get away with that where I grow, so mine are mostly in a semi-hydro setup.

Thumbs up Thoughts about beginners

Something kept bugging me after I came here, voted, read others' thoughts, and also posted a few of my own.

I came back to review, and here's what was bothering me: I saw that you were a 14 year old boy, and forgot that fact while reading other thoughts and opinions, and espousing my own.

I forgot one important thing... actually the most important thing... Good For You, EJ, for being excited about orchids, and thinking, and questioning, and learning. What a treat to have someone your age join us and be a part of this wonderful passion of orchids. Welcome, and here's to a long and fruitful love of all things beautiful. Kudos.
