Unusual flower pattern for epi Stamfordianum

Dont know if this is even a valid question, last year that thus plant flowered for us the spike came from the base of the bulbs; this year was pretty good for the plant, big roots that now are all around and over the pot and some nice tick bulbs all mature now. So the question is why is this plant giving out flowers from the top of the pseudobulbs? (Which also grew out of its usual pattern) or is this the natural form of the flower spikes when healthy?
Regardless the case, flowers have the same size and structure as last year, so dont now if its just a random rarities
