if you bought it in flower, it could have been treated with a hormone to increase flower size
now that it's reblooming without that hormobe treatment, its flowers aren't as huge
i could be wrong but if it's a supermarket plant nothing surprises me

No. That's not the case here. I've had this one particular phalaenopsis for several years. This will be the third time it's bloomed for me, but the first time it's put up double branching spikes, and smaller flowers.

Or does anyone out there seems to think differently? Should I just water with plain water throughout this flowering and blooming so I go on these guys? Or make no changes until this Bloom cycle is finished?

It's true, you're right, but if you do not change everything and decrease the fertilizer and suppress the kelpmax in the flowering, maybe results. I am happy with the kelpmax because it has increased my roots, which was one of my goals. I am also using the Inocucor G. S in the transplants of moss to bark with good results but I have not asked Ray if I can use it in flowering plants as a preventive. The flowers that are coming out small have much stronger colors and the spikes are large, we hope for others, maybe we are rushing and the others come normal, greetings.

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. Patience is not one of my virtues. By the way, my flowers are also stronger in color and spikes are longer and thicker like yours.

At our orchid society meeting, Alan Koch told us Phals produce smaller flowers in strong light. He told us not to grow them in strong light for this reason.
Use the Search | Advanced Search function in the top maroon bar to search on my username with Alan Koch in the text box. You'll find the link to my lecture notes.

This is! I have mine in all the clarity of the day, maybe too much because they develop nicer but I never thought that, thank you very much, then I read what it indicates.

ES, do I go into members and click on your username first. I'm not clear on how to get to that links for your notes.

I haven't been able to get to that link, but should the issue of smaller phalaenopsis flowers be too much light here is my question. I have six track heads, and I have natural white LED light bulbs from Orchids Limited in each one. These are the ones that have stronger light at three and a half to 4 feet away. I switched the bulbs out that I had in there last year , because they were not quite as strong. They where CRI max of 80, 3750 - 4000 k beam angle 40, 490(lm)

So I forgot to even put my question in there. Would it do any good at this point with everything just now starting to Bud and Bloom, to take out the higher or brighter bulbs and put the other ones back in?

Go to the top maroon bar. Click on Search then Advanced search.
Put the words
Alan Koch
in the text box at the left.
Put my username
estación seca
in the text box at the right.
Hit Search.
Search distinguishes between capitals and accented letters. So, you need to enter things exactly. Or you can enter part of a username, then uncheck the box Use exact name.

I found it ES. So here's my question. Not sure if my post above about the lumens Etc of the bulbs that are in there now made sense. But I have the set of lesser strength bulbs still here. If I switch them out and put the lower lumens in the track heads now or today, will it make any difference with the size of the buds that have not bloomed yet? Will the ones that are budding and not yet opened on the other phal that are on this table be able to have the larger size flowers? Or is it too late for this season? My thinking is that what's done is done for this time around. Lesson learned?

Thank you very much, estacion seca, I read everything because it is very interesting and instructive. The part of the cattleyas is important to me too, regards.

Greenpassion, I think that the spike, which flowers begin to form now, have a solution lowering the clarity, I have enough that have not yet formed flowers, I hope to achieve an improvement, I will tell you, regards.
