I have found that KelpMax has a pretty dramatic effect on Vandas. The three that I’ve tried it on all started putting out roots like crazy after a soak.
Thank you Alice, I'll check it out. I read on another board that someone uses and makes a paste out of KLN. I bought the stuff but have yet to see anything. Have you tried that? Any info on that stuff?
No I haven’t tried that. I got the KelpMax to try to jump start some Cattleya that had really bad roots but I had to mix up a gallon. I decided to give it a go on my new Vanda and so far those are the orchids that seem to respond most dramatically to it. I’ve used it a few times on the Vandas and every time it’s been dramatic root growth and root branching within days.
One of the keikies actually sprouted roots! So excited I might actually get to revive the Vanda! But now I have a question again before I mess up... When can I move it into a basket? Check out the pics.
Well, you have already removed it from the pot. Still, those roots are pretty small. You can put it into a basket, with some bark like it had in the pot. Keep it well watered. Wherever you put it, now leave it alone and let the roots grow undisturbed. Those growing root tips are VERY fragile - they have tiny hairs that are almost impossible to avoid damage to when you handle it.
