New here and need advice!
Default New here and need advice!

Hello, so I have always loved orchids and have always gotten them but could never ever get them to regrow! Well I received one last year and miraculously was able to get it to start to re-flower. First I got a new leaf and I was excited, then I got the shoot and I believe the other one to be a root, its got a lot of white on it. The shoot was starting to bud I was super excited I could see three on there... well last night my 5 year old was playing matchbox cars with a wrapping paper tube and some how the car hit my shoot and it broke. Im devastated. What do I do? Im guessing I cut off the stem at the base now and start over??

Help!

I would just leave it. It might begin to grow new branches from what is left of the spike.

These things happen. In my case, it was mostly me. Fortunately, Phals often will send out new branches or new spikes. Good luck!

Welcome, hekela, and sympathy for your broken spike! As Leafmite said, if the plant really wants to bloom, it will either send out a side spike or start a new one, so all is not lost. Good luck!

Welcome to the board! I'm sorry to hear about the broken spike, but don't feel too bad. It happens to most of us sooner or later. As long as the spike stays green, I would leave it and just see what might happen. Even if it doesn't produce any more buds, it sounds like it is a healthy plant and it will be fine.

As is mentioned on this board often, orchids teach us patience. I'm still in the process of learning that lesson!

I too am sorry about the spike. It's not fun to have waited so long and then boom. But it has happened to all of use at one point. Welcome to the board.

Welcome! If you got it to flower once, you can do it again!

Welcome, and merry Christmas! Phals take their time doing anything, so just be patient and yours will do its thing again if you take good care of it, and it sounds like you do! Enjoy!

It is sad and happens to most of us who grow orchids, I did not cut the spike, I expected a branch and a keiki came out that grew and flowered quickly, I separated it from the plant when it was ready and it is already spiked again same as the mother plant.
