Hello everyone:
I would like someone to tell me where I can buy a decent substrate to plant phalaenopsis, I do not want to keep throwing away those that appear in the markets. Thanks for your advice.

I use this and ceramic balls depending on what your after . Amazon.com : Waldor Orchids Multi Purpose Orchid Potting Soil Mix ( 7x7x6 box) for Phalaenopsis Cattleya Dendrobium Oncidium : Garden & Outdoor
I don't use a lot so I don't mind buying it and not having to fool around with mixing my own.
I have them in leca as semi hydroponics and they do well and mounted and they do well. I have one that is in full water culture as it has no roots and it is growing well now. mounting them works well too and it is easy to tell how often they need watered. they tend to need it here every three days or so. here is one guy and another the clay

The medium you use will depend on your watering habits and growing conditions. Generally, for phals you need a chunky material that will allow plenty of air to get to the roots while holding a bit of moisture as well. There are many things that can work, but straight bark of good quality is just fine.

Orchiata is a brand name I am familiar with which is available on-line at Cal-West, Kelly's Korner, Repotme, and other online dealers. If you have any nurseries near you, you may find something there.

for sure they are flexible plants. I had to choose because my wife is blind and she tended to knock them out of the back. so I mounted them. but then she had a few that were too big for that so i went with the semi hydro. but the fully submerged roots may have been easier for her. but any different method means so roots may die.

Call somebody at your local Orlando orchid society. They can tell you where to buy medium.

For normal phals, I pot them up in large shallow pots with coarse bark that has had all the fines sieved out.

Small phals I mount

I agree with the suggestion to ask your local orchid society. You can buy potting mixes online, but shipping it is usually expensive. The orchid society can probably give you local sources.

I agree with all the above. However, Repotme.com is having a pretty good sale right now on mini bags and some free shipping too. I used this to try some new mixes and found a couple I really liked. There are as many preferences as there are growers, experimenting is not a bad thing. Good luck!
