I would suggest you start online orchid buying with established orchid nurseries, rather than individuals on Amazon and eBay. Almost every week we see a new thread started by somebody who bought a bad plant from Amazon or eBay. Even if a real nursery charges more, it's usually worth it.

There is a Vendor Feedback forum here. Look up some of the vendors and see the glowing reviews.

Can you suggest anyone in particular? I did order from a website (orchidweb.com) that I found on this website in the “vendor feedback” section and still did not get a healthy plant. I did post pictures of the plant on this forum and everyone agreed it wasn’t great either. So I am not sure where to buy???

NYC is not very humid in winter time, humidity is 20-40% now. That's why I am so skeptical about trying to grow roots on a miltoniopsis during this season.
I paid $60 for 3 plants (oncidium, miltoniopsis, and paphiopedulum). None were in bloom as advertised.
I did not need or expect it to be in bloom, however, I expected a better condition because they had such good reviews on Amazon. Another lesson learned I guess.

It was potted in bark. The media was wet, I mean dripping wet. When I pulled the plants out, the roots well all wet of course and rotted. I let it air dry through the night and voila, that's what they looked like in am.
I bought it from Amazon, The Orchid Gallery was the seller and they have very good reviews.

I've not been impressed with Amazon sellers with one exception - Andy's Orchids. Andy sends nothing but the healthiest plants you may imagine. Otherwise, I think sellers go to Amazon because they know they can sell crap there.

There are a few good eBay sellers. However, most also sell from their own websites, and sell on eBay for convenience. I've already plugged Andy's, but would also plug Peter Lin and Louisiana Orchid Exchange - both of whom sell on eBay.

Read through the Vendor Feedback forum to get feedback from lots of people, not just me. orchidweb.com has a number of less-than-happy customers who posted there.

I've had good experience with Andy's Orchids, but I went to their site, not Amazon. And with ebay sellers, it's been iffy. I had to be refunded for the purchase if a Sogo Yukidan that was clearly sick, and ended up getting one from Hausermans's. They have never disappointed.

I actually emailed one of the nurseries I found while browsing the internet- Kuwamoto nurseries. I asked if they sold Miltoniopsis orchids and they said they did. I then asked them if they could send me a plant that had a healthy root system and I sent them a picture of what I posted on this board. And they told me their plants' roots look exactly like my picture and said that it's normal to have roots like these on a milt. orchid because it loves water so much that they rot. But then new growth will develop new healthy roots. I don't get it then, how do people post that they got these miltoniopsises with beautiful healthy green roots?!

Try Andy's Orchids, he's having a sale as of right now.

And it's not normal for anything to like so much water that it rots. Maybe rotting roots are hard to avoid while giving the orchid enough water, but plants aren't usually self-destructive. Sounds like a bad excuse to me.

Kawamoto Orchids and Carmela Orchids are both good and they sell on Amazon (that is how I usually buy their orchids). I have always bought directly from Andy's Orchids and haven't tried buying his orchids from Amazon yet but it looks like shipping might be more reasonable through Amazon if I wanted just one orchid.

True but at least he was honest. Or maybe didn’t want to deal with me thinking I want too much? But all I want is a healthy plant. Seems like too much to ask 👀
I don’t see miltoniopsis on Andy’s website though
