that's a good one Subrosa! I really don't know what the science is but online there's probably a dozen or so different types of these items that you drop into your humidifier tank. They're inexpensive so it wouldn't hurt to try it to see what it does.

I use them as well, they are great for water storage. I'm almost out of rain water and I'm not looking forward to hauling RO water again.
