Phal,Phrag questions
Hi there
Can anyone tell me if my phal & phrag(aren't they cute)? have to be kept directly at a window now that they halve bloomed? Also should the stanhopea & vanda 's roots be kept moist all the time?
The baskets are thanks to my clever husband.

The baskets are really nice! The Paphs and Phrags need light similar to Phals (500-1500 FCs) so a east window or filtered south window would work.

Hi Linsoo
I have no experience with vanda myself but a "fanatic" in Sweden have very good experience. His advice is always to soak the roots 20-30 minuts every second to third day during winter and every day during summer. They should also dry up fast before the next soak. He make sure that all roots are filled with water and are green every time he is watering his vanda´s.

Paphs & Phrag questions
So Ross will they die if I don't have them at a window?

and I would say that the Phrag could take some more light than the Paph with patterned leafs, but not direct sun.

Nice blooms on those... your Paph looks just like one I got a couple of days ago. Do you know the name?
I don't know about Stanhopea, but the vandas will drink a lot of water. Since their roots are not in any medium, they will dry out quickly - which they like - but should be watered frequently as a result.

the stan will like it evenly moist, but never soaking wet. they do well in pretty much any type of media, but whatever you use will determine how frequently you water them. i have my stans in sphagnum with some medium grade bark mixed in and water them 2-3 times a week in the winter and 3-4 in the summer. just depends on how quickly they seem to be drying out.

Paphs & Phrag questions
They are on my kitchen counter top. Not a very bright kitchen as far as natural light goes but we have the overhead light on a lot.

I do not think they will die but you could have some problem to get them to rebloom.
