It looks like either an Oncidium intergeneric or possibly a Zygopetalum--the picture shows up super shaded and blurred on my Mac. If it's in what looks like potting mix, it's probably in Pro-Mix, which is a media often used in commercial greenhouses; I have seen Zygos grown in it, but I've not seen any Oncidiae in it--I believe that their fine root system would probably not make it long.

I think it's in the oncidium tribe but not a Zygo. The leaves are too thick. I can't tell anything about the soil from the pic.

I agree with the oncid group.

Use the faucet and a heavy stream of water to rinse the old mix out of the roots. Get as much as you can off but don't worry about every little piece...then pot it up in the new media.

About that potting mix: Many nurseries use something called "pro-mix" which looks like potting soil but it an inert well draining medium good for orchids. Also about dividing because of new growths. A large plant is more healthy and "stronger." Having more new growths just means having more flowers, so I would not divide it. Big healthy plants are awesome.

I just saw the PDF file. It is an oncidium type. It just looks like it needs a larger (inner) pot.

I agree with Optimist and Katrina: don't divide if you don't have to. It sets the plant back...speaking from experience.
