Great reward for a horrible night! - Orchid Board

Last eve I was redeployed to another unit in the psych hospital where I work. It's a forensic unit, with very high acuity. The assignment I was given was to remain in the locked back with some pretty scary pts, and was to stay there 7 of the 8 hours I worked. I was to say the least, not pleased. But then, when I went back to the break room, low and behold what did I see but a beautiful phal in full bloom tucked behind a chair on a narrow window ledge. I went and checked it out (of course) and found it was in a cache pot with about 2 inches of water in it! I emptied this out, and resolved to bring this beauty to a good home...My house

I asked a nurse what the story is with this phal, and she said that a pt's family sent it to the floor as a thank you, several weeks ago, and said that if I took it, most likely no one would notice! So an awful shift ended very well for me, and for this phal as well.

I'm on a work computer or I'd send a pic!

It's great that it ended on a phal note. My shifts that end that way end up with me stopping at a nursery or grocery stores and buying a phal. Can't wait to see pics of it once you get it home.

These aren't very good photos, it was dark and I had a flash on one of them. And yes, so very true ES!

Orchids do tend to make most things better, don't they! It's a beauty. I'm glad you were able to give it a good home.

Perhaps at some point it may be something the patients could be interested in? Therapeutic?

These patients wouldn't possibly be able to take care of any plant let alone an orchid. Not to mention that plants are not allowed on the floor. Only behind the nurses station or in the break room.
