Is this botrytis?
Default Is this botrytis?

Hey guys!

So I was out and about this mornings and I came across this gorgeous orchid. At this point my collection is tight on space so I promised myself not to buy any more phals and focus on other species, however I couldn't resist this one Upon closer inspection I noticed dark dots on the backs of the petals. Its four of them that are clustered together and it indeed seems to me like its botrytis, especially since the dots are on the back of the petals and the flowers are hanging down. I really hope Im wrong though, because these blooms are gooorgeous T_T
Could anyone confirm this for me please? If it is botrytis, should I remove the blooms affected, or trim the entire stem? :O

Thanks alot in advance!

I'd suspect bug damage rather than anything else, really.

Most of the time botrytis affects the entire thickness of the petal, and the spot is seen front and back.

Botrytis spores are everywhere. It is impossible to keep them off your plants. There is no reason to remove the flowers, nor the stem. Doing so will not keep the fungus off other plants.

Botrytis prefers being wet and cool, which is not what Phals like. Keep the flowers warmer and don't let them get wet, and you will minimize botrytis problems.
