I am fairly new it Orchid growing and have found myself fascinated by zygopetalum orchids and wanting to try to grow one. I do not have a greenhouse and I grow all my plants in an in home environment using humidity trays and some lights and any south-facing window I can find! I have read some culture sheets but would like to hear from someone else who grows them in an in home environment on how forgiving they are and how well they do? Any advice would be great!
Well see it sounding more perfect all the time we don't get that much sun here! It's always kind of a struggle with my vanda and Cattleyas. Would it go well with a collection of phalaenopsis?
Thank you so much for all of the information I really really appreciate you taking the time to respond! I am definitely still leaning towards giving them a try!
Consider also some of the Zygo hybrids with some of its relatives, such as Aganesia making Zygonesia ... Those can grow a little warmer and with less light than the straight Zygos, making them great indoor plants. Example: Zygonesia (Zgs.)Cynosure http://orchidcentral.org/Images/Zygo...20Cynosure.jpg
I have Advance Australia in my greenhouse window with my phals. Humidity hovers around 70%, temp between 60-70f. I run a fan across the window and never let it dry out. No spots, lots of new growth. It's in a moss bark mix in a ceramic pot with holes.
