so I am debating on how to take care of my one cymbidium. I had it outside in a little shade (even after weeks leaf tips burned if they got full sun. I got it early summer and it grew leaves outside now I see roots and a bulb coming out. it has been in LECA bout half that time. though it got the same light goodall the orchids did so thats something that will change. so maybe next year my course mix and some manure? or see how it does?

Fooferdoggie, I see a saucer sitting under your pot. Is your plant sitting in water all the time? Not a good idea. You also appear to have a fairly healthy colony of scale showing on the right hand leaf. Scale will drain health from the plant and should be removed.

If your leaves show brown tips, it generally means you are either not watering enough, are fertilizing a dry plant with too strong a fertilizer solution, or the roots are rotting because of sitting in water and therefore cannot carry water or nutrients to the leaves. Only you will know which of these is causing the problem.

Whatever mix you use will depend on your environment. You say you live in the US but what area? Hot, humid, cool, freezing????

well it is semi hydro leca so it has to have some water in the tray. not sure if it is doing better or not since it is the only one i have. there are the roots after about 3 months. the brown tips were when it had too much sun when I tried full sun after some shade. Think your seeing water on the leaves from a misting I am in the us in the pacific NW so hot and cold. so do you think I should go back to bark and some potting mix? the plant is growing. but there is always some root loss when the media changes Have found. any exposed roots then I get the plant dry up and new ones do fine. if anything it did not get enough food. I did not know it needed more then the other orchids.
