Update: I'm 100% confident that it'll recover fully. Hasn't dropped any flowers yet from being repotted, and most of the flowers have more water in them now. A lot are still drooping, but the stalks don't make dry rustling noises if you bump them. More importantly, the pbulbs are at least twice as thick now, filling back up with water.
I'm happy. I know it's not a species orchid, but it's pretty, and species or not it's gonna look stunning when it gets a bit bigger and starts filling out the pot. Will try to remember to update with pics in a week or so.

I think the peat mix would work well for people who can't water every day. Growers obviously use it to bring these to market. These are very thirsty plants.

Your story also confirms a suspicion of mine - so long as these complex Oncidium hybrids have viable roots, they are fairly easy to bring back. If they lack viable roots it takes more work, but usually they will survive.

Hooray! Glad to hear it made it through the repotting okay.

The flowers look beautiful! It will be even more rewarding when you get new spikes on new growth, knowing the condition of this oncidium when you brought it home.

I'd imagine part of the reason growers make so many of these is because they do tend to be hardy. Getting this plant to perk back up didn't really take any more effort than I'd usually spend on a new plant, really- just water and a repot.

It hasn't dropped any flowers yet, so I think they're staying on. I'm happy about that, clearly. And I'm definitely looking forward to healthy growth+spikes, both for the appearance and for the sign of success. This one's gonna be gorgeous when it's nice and healthy.
