My husband bought me this vanda plant in a vase. The instructions say water twice a week by filling the glass vase half way with water. I am worried however because All the roots are broken (see pictures). Do you think it will do well or return it? Does it stand a chance with those roots?
Thanks

I think it looks fine. You say it came in a vase? If so put it back in and leave it, taking the plant in and out of the vase will damage root tips and weaken the plant. Just hold the plant by the 'neck and tip the water out.
I grow all my vandas in vases and find it a successful way to grow them. As well as watering twice a week, I give the roots a quick mist on the days they don't get watered if they look dry.

Thanks, I thought that if the roots are broken on a vanda, the plant can't do well. Does the stem appear healthy judging from the pics I have posted?

The roots can develop 'sidehoots' if the growing tip is broken, you can see some have already done that. It's difficult to see the stem, your pics are backlit and the stem is shadowy, do you have an area of concern?

the stem section where the roots and leaves start growing is dark (not sure if it's rotting or what) and bottom leaves are falling off. that's why I am concerned. when I come home I'll take another picture, hopefully a clearer one so that you guys can see.

Most of the time when Vanda leaves drop off, they are being kept too dry or too cool. I need to soak mine (which I keep in vases) for 4-5 entire days out of every 7 or the leaves wrinkle. They will drop leaves if temperatures get much under 50 F / 10C.
