Bare root purchases - OK to go S/H? Female
Default Bare root purchases - OK to go S/H?

Hello,

I purchased a NOID phal and a cymbidium. Both arrived bare root. I have the supplies to go S/H with some african violets. So I wonder if my 2 newbies can also be potted in S/H? I know I should wait for new root growth. If I don't use S/H, I could use a bark mix that I have.

I read that as roots grow, they adapt to the medium they're in. When they arrive bare root, how do we decide what to pot in?

Thank you.

A woman at our OS grows both Cymbidiums and Phals in full hydroponics so S/H should be fine. I am not sure where you live but if it is somewhere cold, a heat mat underneath would be a good idea.

I agree. Give the Phal a warm spot or a heat mat. My experience with Cymbidiums is they love S/H and they are almost always ready to grow new roots.

Ideally, you should wait for the emergence of new roots before any repot, but in this case, you don't have that option, do you?

Pot 'em up in whatever manner you want to use going forward, and don't look back. Treatment with KelpMax will accelerate the reestablishment process.
