still growing despite cold approaching (linked photos)

So, I've been collecting orchids for a while, but this is the first year I've really gotten bitten and have been doing more research to actually getting them to grow and bloom again.

I have a few that should be entering winter rest soon, but still have some relatively new growth. I have a Lycaste Red Jewel that has an immature growth (no psudo-bulb and the leaves are fully grown), a dendrobium with a 2" cane that is just getting started, and a cymbidium that has a 5" growth that also hasn't matured or developed a psudo-bulb and a cattleya with a cane that is nearly mature, but not plump yet.

Nights are around 55-60. Do I leave them out and risk damaging the still-developing growths or bring them inside?

The dendrobium is a new one (from greenhouse a few weeks ago) but the rest have been on the porch all summer.

PS: I got through page 8 on the thread on winter rest and found some answers on watering (or not) when there are still parts growing, but saw nothing on the issue of cold--which is what I'm after.

Just wanted to let you know I tried to find answers before being lazy and asking!

I don't grow Lycastes, but they like cool nights. I wouldn't worry about them just yet. When people bring their orchids in for the winter, those are usually some of the last ones that need to come in.

Same with Cymbidiums. In fact, many Cyms require cool nights in late summer to fall in order to flower the next spring.

Dendrobium is an enormous genus. Some species and hybrids need to stay warm. Others are fine with cool nights. Until we see your plant we won't be able to tell for sure. To be safe I would bring it in until we know what kind it is.

Cattleyas will usually be OK with nights like that if the next day warms up quite a bit. If you have a week or two of cool, cloudy weather, that won't be OK with them.

Question, Niki_Nicole. Where do you live? Those night temperatures aren't bad for most orchids except the real warm growers like Phalenopsis. The big question, is, where it is going? In much of the country, these temps are just a prelude to real fall and winter. Where I live, in coastal southern California, That's just a normal fall temperature drop (Finally!), nights will stay around that level for another month and then go down slowly, giving the plants a chance to acclimate. Cymbidiums are good down to about 29 deg F without damage. I can't quite read the label on the Catt except the Pot. part... Since Potinara is a fairly complex hybrid, knowing exactly what is in the pedigree on a particular plant helps determine what you can get away with. If you can tell us the name of the plant, it is possible to make an educated guess as to what you can get away with.
Lycastes should be fine at least down into the low 40's F. I grow mine outside all year, they're a little sheltered next to the house but get whatever temps Mother Nature throws at them (occasionally into the mid to low 30's F for a few hours) and manage fine.

55 to 60 is not really a problem. 45 or 30 would be. I have mine in now because I do not want to constantly trot 50 orchids outside again if the weather is nice.

I downloaded the Catt photo to get a better look at it, and think the label says "Pot. Perfect Choice Purple Lady" Pretty sure it's Pot.Perfect Choice 'Purple Lady' (the part in single quotes is the cultivar or specific plant from which it was no doubt cloned) I looked up Pot. Perfect Choice, (in Orchidwiz) and it's a bit over half cold-tolerant species, so I think that it should be fine down at least into the 40's F especially since it has been outside and given a chance to acclimate (Orchids will tend to tolerate cold when kept fairly dry, so water in the morning to give it a chance to dry out)

You are right on the name for the cattleya.

The dendrobium is a no-ID but I'm pretty sure it is a phalaenopsis type. The cane looks similar to nobile but has a flower spike instead of flowering right from the cane.

I also have a dendrobium antennatum and the info on temperature has been vague. I know it doesn't want a winter rest, but can't tell when it should come in. I bought it with inflorescences but they didn't flower because of adjusting to a new environment I think. I want to give it as much time as possible outside to hopefully get it to bloom (assuming like other dendrobiums that if you don't give them enough light, they develop keiki's)

Den antennatum tends to be a fairly warm grower, I think. Those Dens probably need to be brought inside once it starts to seriously cool off.
