Award of Merit/American Orchid Society. This is the second highest quality award given by the AOS, the highest being a FCC (First Class Certificate). They are awarded to plants based on size, shape, color, etc. you would expect to pay a premium for these plants. They are often used in breeding programs in order to improve the quality of the progeny.

If you look on the left hand side of this webpage, you'll see a list of pages in the "Site Menu". There's one that's just for this sort of question if you have more questions like this.

Default ASCDA meaning

I've checked the glossary and googled it but couldn't find it.
I just bought a Vanda ASCDA, Kulwadee Fragrance X Dr. Anek Ting No.20. All of this is foreign to me. I just loved the flower but have no idea what this all means.
Sorry about being such a newbie and thank you in advance.

Vanda= the type of orchid it is the "genus"
ASCDA= means Ascocenda, abbreviated as Ascda in the horticultural trade, is a man-made hybrid orchid genus resulting from a cross between Ascocentrum and Vanda
On labels, you will find two orchid names separated by an “X”. This indicates the two plants have been bred together with the mother (seed pod parent) named first and the father (pollen giving parent) named second.

So this was Vanda ASCDA Kulwadee Fragrance (mother)
And Vanda ASCDA Dr. Anek Ting No.20 (father)

I am not sure whether the resulting baby has a name yet. If it wins through official judging, I have heard that the winner gets to name it. I do not know how this works, but for now, the baby is named after the mother and father.

The person who hybridized this vanda, did so by choosing aspects of both that he thought would be either pleasing to look at, or easier to care for in a typical home environment. Ascocendas are miniature vandas who have large vanda sized flowers. Vandas can get huge like 5-6 feet high or more, and very few people can actually care for them unless they live in Florida, or some other tropical place-- thus, these mini-hybrids were created.

If the second name (the "father") is actually Dr. Anek (the cultivar, or specific plant being 'Ting No 20') this hybrid actually does have a name:
Ascda. Kulwadee Fragrance x Ascda. Dr. Anek = Ascda. Uraiwan Belle
Sometimes labels don't accurately place the single quotes that should identify the cultivar (the specific plant) and so the name becomes hard to look up. But I think this is what you have

Orchid nomenclature is tough enough with the name changes/reclassifications. When vendors get sloppy with the cultivar part of the name (or capitalization when species are involved or misspell names altogether or otherwise are careless with labeling), it becomes a total guessing game.
