Phal. leaf splitting. Thoughts?
Question Phal. leaf splitting. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if this is a cause for worry or not, but a bunch of my phals have been putting out new leaves and all seem pretty happy and healthy. One plant in particular is now growing a new leaf but this tiny little thing is splitting from the tip as it grows.

I'm sure there's no way to fix it, but I was wondering if it's something I should even worry about. Is the orchid okay? Will the leaf keep splitting as it grows? Is it something I did wrong or is it just one of those things that happens?

I'm sure you can tell but I'm relatively new to orchid care so anything that seems out of the ordinary kinda makes me freak out haha

A photo would be helpful, but it's probably OK. I'd imagine the cause is just a growth defect, that happens sometimes with plants.

In most cases it seems like some sort of physiological defect. I think I have read of people taping (on both sides of the leaf) at the point where the leaf is still intact to try to prevent the split from progressing further. But I don't know if that's possible on an young actively growing leaf. The splitting won't harm the plant at all, it's just a cosmetic issue.

Leaf splitting in almost all orchids means not enough water.
