phallies, are they ok outside under cover in winter?
Default phallies, are they ok outside under cover in winter?

Hello from me in New Zealand, I have 3yr old phallies and Catts on my deck this winter. The deck has a polycarb roof and they are also housed in a shelving arrangement which has a plastic 'hood' which I unzip during the day and close at night. Auckland winters can go down to 4C at night and daytime up to 15C. Is this ok for them? Your opinions and expertise are gratefully received. Thanks.

Do you mean phalaenopsis orchids?
They aren't going to like the cold.

15ºC is the minimum temp they can handle for a few hrs at night.

If you leave them at 4C you'll soon have dead Phals. Please bring them inside.

In nature, most phalaenopsis species never see temperatures below about 20C, and will thrive if grown warmer, with deep shade.
