Default Terrestrial orcihids

Just been reading about terrestrial orchids in the local garden magazine and must say I am quite amazed by some of them.I wish I knew I didn't have to suffer with cattelayas and cyms all this time when I could have been having a good ol time with Bletillas striata and Sobralia macrantha.the search is now on to find these beauties.

We all seem to want what we can't have. I would be thrilled to be able to grow Catts and cymbs. I hope you can endure your suffering😀😁😂🤣

I also starting reading about them, as I find them quite captivating. I found that

Hardy Orchid Society (HOS)

has a lot of info. I started reading the journal (free from 1996 until 2011).

You should look into some of your native terrestrial orchids. I understand Disa are commercially available there and they're stunning.

Take a look at Habenarias. Generally easy to grow and some are spectacular - like medusa and radiata.
My radiata are in bloom currently and are well worth growing.

Terrestrial orchids have their own challenges. Some are very easy to grow, some are not.

Disa spp. may be available in South Africa, but they are not necessarily the easiest orchids to grow, especially if you have no prior experience to growing orchids with tuberous growths or any orchids with a dormancy. The Disa spp. that have a dormancy each have their own habits of growing. It is not necessarily straightforward. These orchids also tend to go dormant like clockwork.
