I have one at the moment, he has been on this orchid, for three or four days, starting off on the leaves and now on the medium. Too stoned to get out of the way when I spray the plant, and I haven't seen him eating any of the honeydew.
Yeah, I do use imacloporid,, so maybe that is it.
I was going to post the same query! I've noticed wasps hanging around my two catasetums outside. But only the catasetums, which are next to each other. The other mounted orchids in the area don't have large leaves so maybe that's why they prefer them, though I was wondering if yellow jackets eat small bugs that might be on the leaves? The wasps don't die there, but they do seem unwilling to move if I spray. Although then sometimes they get mad and come after me...
Wasps are famous for hanging around fragrant flowers and pouncing on other insects that show up. I have seen it quite a bit here in the desert. But they don't act drunk.

None of my orchids are in bloom. In fact there are no flowers around my hanging orchids at all but on the other side of the patio there are dill flowers and basil flowers in bloom so why are they so interested in my catasetums?
Wasps are voracious predators of other insects, including aphids, caterpillars, and anything else they can catch. I've watched yellow jackets systematically hunting through my yard--I think they use a grid system and divvy things up. I've learned to not poison the insects that show up very early in the spring so I can enjoy the predators a little later. I have been accused of being a bug-hugger, but I believe in just enjoying whatever wildlife I get (mostly).
