Phal Amibilis bud blasting!! Female
Default Phal Amibilis bud blasting!!

Hi all. About 2 months ago I purchased a double spiked Phal Amabilis. At the time the spikes were only an inch or so tall. Since, it's grown another 4 I ches, and developed buds. Now for some reason all the buds on one of the spikes are blasting! Should I just cut that spike since I know all the buds will blast , and let the energy go to the other spike? It's a very healthy plant, in a moss/ bark mix in my light garden with many other phals. Advise?

Yeah, sure, go ahead and cut the one bad spike. Keep the good one. You'll be happier.

Thank you Phillip. I kind thought that might be the right move. Still puzzled why this happened. No changes in temp or environment...

Sometimes it just happens. The plant may not have had the energy to produce 2 spikes worth of flowers. If everything else falls in line, then don't worry about it.

I'd also double check to see if everything is really ok. Of particular interest are the roots. If you've got a clear pot, it is easy to see without pulling the plant out of the pot.

I'd also be a little bit more reserved with the watering just for the time being. It doesn't have to be drastic. A tiny change is usually enough.

Actually I repotted this little guy as soon as I got it. I put it in a mix of orchiata moss and Fir bark. And The Roots did look really good. I had to do very little trimming. It did have to spend something like 2 or 3 days at the post office before I could pick it up. But at that time the spikes were only like an inch long, and I repotted it and gave it good light water and bottom heat and with all that I'm just surprised that I've lost the buds on one Spike. Anyway comma I am glad that I have another Spike with four or five buds and to open flower so far.
