Just Add Ice
My orchid says to just add ice. I'm going on vacation, so can it put the plant in my freezer while I'm gone?

Great idea, but I think it could be better.
About two days before you go, I recommend filling a large container with water and submerging the plant. Then place the whole thing in the freezer.
If you have a neighbor or friend who can come over two days before your return they could then put the block of ice on the counter to defrost.

No, no, no. That's all wrong. Put the pot into a water tight pot full of the water you use to fertilize and water to soak, then put THAT into the freezer. That way, the roots will be completely encased in ice with fertilizer. They'll be much happier that way.
I think I'm going to start a new business, orchidcicle.com.
How do you think I'll do?

Well, John, it depends on how long you will be gone...

I think you can, but you just have to figure out how to make sure that little light stays on.

I tried the "just add ice" method with one of mine, but the ice pack melted in two days and the plant still didn't seem wet.

I wonder what might happen if a newbie reads this and decides to follow all those "sugestions".
Shouldn"t this be moved to the off-topic or any other appropriate section of the forum?

Let's go with that an assume that everyone that likes orchids must have a bit more sense than average.
