GrammCym Ready to repot, yes?

This is a GramCym Mem. Nathan Newman 'NN'. It's a pretty big fella at 2.5' tall from the top of the pot with a nice bunch of blooms, but it seems to be overgrowing it's pot and I see 3 new roots coming out of the newest growth which is still immature. It's in a 4.5" pot and the 2 biggest bulbs are 2" wide at their widest point. There are a total of 7 bulbs in the pot from the youngest that's maybe the size of a big almond to the 2 biggest and the new on that's balanced on the edge of the pot. I've got some 6" pots on the way.

I assume with the new roots sprounting, this is a good time to repot this guy into a larger pot similar to a Cattleya?

Yes, repot now. This kind of plant makes new growth constantly during warm weather when it's happy.

Cool. I should have new pots arriving on Sat. I've already got media. I'm ready. Hopefully, I can do it without disturbing the plant too much and the blooms don't fade, but they seem to be slowly fading a bit anyway.

There's no rush to repot. You could let it finish blooming. Just be careful with the new roots.

Not sure if you know this already, but I'll just repeat for those who may be reading this and may not know this trick. If you know it, great! If you don't, then try it out.

When you are ready to repot, just water the roots thoroughly and squeeze the pot carefully and gently to loosen up any roots stuck to the inside of the pot. You may need to stop every-now-and-then to water the roots good before continuing to squeeze the pots in order to loosen up the roots inside the pot.

If you want me to answer your original question as to whether you should repot it, then the answer would be, yes, I think you should repot it. In my opinion, it could use a slightly larger pot.

Great, thanks all. My plan is to go up in pot size. I think the current pot is 4.5", and I've got a 6" pot coming in the mail tomorrow.

OK, as recommended in another thread, I went with an 8" pot. The blooms are still going strong. I've got 2 new growths out of opposite sides (new pbulb and old) and some new roots.
